Sofia: A short introduction
Hi there! My name is Sofia and this is a short entry about myself. I grew up in Sweden and later moved to England to study physics at Imperial College London.
You might be curious as to why I chose to study physics. My favourite author to is Isaac Asimov, whose compelling stories about galactic empires and robots made me dream of distant futures with intergalactic space travel. Once I had completed my early education, I figured the closest I could get to science fiction was physics where the boundary of human knowledge is slowly but inevitably pushed forwards.
Initially, I was interested in experimental physics and engineering, but over the years I found myself more and more fascinated with the fundamental questions. Questions like: What is spacetime? What would a theory of quantum gravity look like? Why is quantum physics so weird? Physicists don't really have answers to these questions yet, but attempting to solve these mysteries has led to deep insights into the reality of the universe.
In the moment of writing I have just started a PhD in theoretical quantum physics. I want to find out how gravity influences quantum systems and use the results to improve measurements of spacetime parameters, such as gravitational acceleration. The remaining years of my PhD should be both challenging and fascinating, and hopefully my research will both raise and answer interesting questions.
I hope that I will be able to inspire you to study physics and convince you that it is possible to do so while being visually impaired. Please have a look at my other posts and don't hesitate to get in touch.
